Cellular Cinema

an artist-run screening series for contemporary experimental film on film, video and expanded cinema since 2014

CC54: Farewell to John Akre! (3/27/21)

Join us for the first Cellular Cinema event in a year! This evening is dedicated to the decades-long contribution of animator John Akre to the experimental film community in the Twin Cities, as he and Beth prepare to move to Louisville! The screening will be held safely outdoors in the newly nice weather!

We’ll be showing the World Premieres of two films by John, a short called The Alchemical Dungheap of Daniel Polnau and a feature called Ben and Dopey, “the story about a not-so-great street musician and the animated duck created by his mother.”

Unlike our usual screenings at the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater, this one will be at 3400 Cedar Ave S, behind the Mirrorlab Studio space, starting at 8pm.

Kevin Obsatz, programmer of Cellular Cinema, is a fiscal year 2021 recipients of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
